LOCAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
Whenever the children come by from the local elementary school selling chocolate bars, I normally end up buying an entire box or two from them. Of course I don’t eat them all. Sometimes, I don’t actually eat any of the chocolate bars at all. I just give them away to people at work. I only do it to help the children. But after I bought my last box, the school mailed me a free glucose meter. Any idea what that is? I had to look it up. A glucose meter is the meter people with diabetes use to test the level of glucose in their blood. I have never been diagnosed with diabetes nor has anyone else in my family. I called the school to ask them to explain and after they beat around the bush for a while they finally broke down and told me. Put simply, with the amount of chocolate I always buy, they figure that I’m going to need that glucose meter soon and apologized, saying they wouldn’t allow their children to sell me anymore chocolate. However, they deeply appreciated my patronage and hoped my life would go well, even if any unfortunate medical conditions cropped up. I just hung up the phone after this and shook my head.
